St. Patrick's Day

Way back in January on Martin Luther King Day, Sarah was confused about what holiday it was. For some reason, she was thinking it was St. Patrick's Day, and woke up that morning happily declaring, "It's Saints Patrick's Day!" Katie and I explained to her that it wasn't St. Patrick's Day, but she just kept saying "It's Saints Patrick's Day!" all day long. So it has become something that she says on a regular basis on any given day, and it just makes us all laugh. So I decided that since Sarah is apparently infatuated with St. Patrick's Day that we should celebrate it. Besides, we are all pretty infatuated with rainbows anyway. So we started our day out with rainbow pancakes for breakfast.

And I made these rainbow cookies last night, and packed one in the girls' bags for a little snack at school. And of course John David had to have one too.

This afternoon, a little leprechaun sent the kids on a little treasure hunt.

They had to find shamrocks in all the colors of the rainbow.

On a side note, I was so proud of myself for being prepared with a little craft for Sarah to do last night while Katie was gone to Activity Days. She gets pretty sad about not being old enough to go yet. So I thought we could make her a St. Patrick's Day ponytail holder to occupy her time. But she got a call from a friend to go hang out with her last night during the time of activity days, so she left me here to do the craft myself. So much for being prepared. Turned out pretty cute though.

The girls followed all of the clues and found all of the shamrocks and............

............then they found a little treasure from the little green guy!

John David was really excited about this part.

Then we came inside for corned beef and cabbage for dinner, which was my first time making it and it was surprising good. Aaron, Mom, and I really liked it, and so did our little "Saints Patrick's Day" enthusiast. Katie and John David.......not so much. We might just have settle for another Irish favorite next year.....pizza and beer......root beer that is. Or maybe shepherd's pie. We shall see. Anyway, we finished our day with what else........rainbow jello.

Yes, we consumed way too much artificial coloring today, but it sure was fun! And delicious!
