Memorial Day

Today we were invited to go play at a friend's house on a blow up water slide they had rented. However, my van wouldn't start and we had to wait until Aaron came home from work. By the time we got there, everyone was gone. But we played on it anyway. Well, I didn't. I didn't wear my bathing suit. But when I saw how huge this thing was and how much fun they were having, I was wishing I had come prepared to get wet. I had never seen a blow up water slide this big. Did I already mention how huge it was? Katie was the first to slide.







Then Sarah tried it out.









Just in case you couldn't tell.....they LOVED it! Then Aaron decided to take John David down.



John David wasn't very excited about it.







But I guess he decided it wasn't so bad, because he willingly went down the next time.





Then KK took him down. This boy loves him some KK.







Then Aaron sent John David down all by himself.

KK was there to catch him at the bottom.



The kids played on this slide for two hours.







They had a splashin' good time!





I think Aaron liked it just as much as the kids.













Everything is more fun with your sister.









It was fun watching them, but I think it would have been even more fun to join them.





Definitely a memorable Memorial Day!

Birthday Wishes

This is a picture of my Daddy and his little brother Joe. It was taken in New Bern, North Carolina sometime in 1955. The whole family had gone on a fishing trip that day to Broad Creek, and from the looks of it, it was a good day for fishing. These boys learned to love fishing early in their lives, which is likely to happen when your Daddy loves fishing too. I remember fishing with my Daddy when I was a kid. And I remember how Aaron was so impressed when we went fishing for the first time and I baited my own hook. He jokingly says that's when he knew I was "the one".

Today is my Daddy's birthday. We had planned to go on a family fishing trip this morning to the Catfish Farm, catch some "big ones", and come home and fry 'em up. But John David started running a fever last night, so we decided to postpone our little fishing adventure for another day when he can enjoy it. But we did have a fish fry tonight. And I couldn't help but think of my Daddy, and wish he were here with us to enjoy the awesome fish Aaron fried. Oh, how nice that would be to see him and hug him and tell him how we love him and miss seeing his smiling face! And as hard as I tried to only think of happy memories, and to not be sad, I was. As I was walking back to my bedroom tonight, I saw on my wall, "Families are Forever". And it made me so happy to see those words. Words that I see everyday, but at that moment it brought me such great joy to think about how even though we aren't together right now, we will be together again someday. So.....Daddy........I hope you were celebrated where you are today. And I hope you know that you were celebrated here today too. You may be temporarily out of our sight, but you are forever in our hearts!

Welcoming Summer

Since today was the last day of school (although my girls chose to skip it), I told the girls they could invite some friends over for a TGIS (Thank Goodness it's Summer!) party.



So we filled up some water balloons and let 'em loose.







John David wasn't quite sure what to think of it all. (I love how he almost always puts his shoes on the wrong feet.)



He didn't quite get that you were supposed to throw the water balloons at other people, but he enjoyed himself nonetheless.



The water balloon fight was over in about point two seconds. (Note to self--have LOTS more water balloons next year.) So the girls played in the sprinklers on the trampoline for a little while.



Then we had some ice cream.



I wonder if John David liked his ice cream.



I know he liked the Cheetos.



He was so tired that he didn't care that he was wearing pink flip flops and a Tinkerbell towel. He just didn't want to miss out on anything.



So.....who's ready for summer?????
