As soon as we walked into the barber shop, I told Aaron I changed my mind, and I wanted to wait. But he wouldn't leave.
Is it me, or does he look like he's not so sure about what's about to happen?!
This is the man who used to cut Aaron's hair when he was a little boy. John David was excited to begin with when he got to sit on the big chair.
Then he started squinting.
And leaning.
And more leaning.
So Aaron tried to hold him still.
And then he started looking sad.
And even more sad.
And then the tears started flowing.
And then John David started crying.
He was not happy about this situation.
I don't know who was crying harder at this point--him or his mama.
For some reason, the man didn't put the cape on him, so hair was everywhere. And with all of the tears, it was sticking to him like crazy. I was very frustrated about that part.
And the part where the barber cut off the curls I asked him to leave in the back. :(
My poor baby.
It's a pretty choppy cut, but I think it's pretty good considering how unhappy this first time customer was.
Hopefully next time will be a little less traumatic--for him and his mama.
He seemed to be in a daze when we left. I think he was trying to figure out why we didn't rescue him sooner. He acted like he was upset with us for a few minutes.
But it wasn't anything a "rink" couldn't cure.
When the girls got home from school, they were upset that his curls were gone too.
They kept saying, in disbelief, "His curls are gone!"
By the time evening rolled around, they were getting used to it. Sarah said, "Mama, I'm starting to like John's haircut. He's still cute!" And I have to agree. He is beyond adorable! He just looks like a little boy now, instead of my baby. (sniff sniff)

He is totally adorable. But I miss the curls too. :( I cried with Ian's too. It wasn't actually his first cut, but Cory used the clippers the first time. He ended up buzzed...and hasn't looked back since. I cried, then I loved it. :) Being a mommy is tough stuff.
Ohhh, I loved his curls!
He does look more grown up, and so cute! I hope you have better luck than me. My sister cuts hair and Hudson still freaks out every time he has to get his hair cut.
The day we cut off Aiden's curls was a sad day too. I know how you feel!
I know you are following tradition, but next time you might like to check pig tails and crew cuts. They have a TV playing and get to sit in a cute little chair and have toys and all sorts of stuff. Aurora's pretty squirmy and ended up with a good trim. But your little man does look cute with his new "big boy" cut!
Oh Lynetta! He's cute either way! Ben had his first hair-cut at like 4 months old. He had the craziest hair...always cried and squirmed until he was about 4...now he does great! Good luck!
Aw, he's adorable both ways! It is always amazing how much more grown up little boys look after they get their hair cut short.
Yep, he's a cute little guy with his haircut! (you know, a John Deere man!)
I know how you feel... I was sooooo sad to cut the curls off. Why do daddy's have to be so mean and insist that their little boys have short hair cuts!
I love it, but i'm with you. it would have been hard to go through. i think i would have cried too.
