*Conversation with Sarah on the way home from church today.
Sarah: I can't wait for Jesus's birthday!
Me: Really?
Sarah: Yes! I can hardly wait!
Me: Well, since it is his birthday, we should get him a present. What do you think he would like for his birthday?
Sarah: What about a sack full of good choices?
Me: What? (not sure I understood her correctly--I was expecting her to say we should get him a chocolate bar, or something like that)
Sarah: What about a sack full of good choices for the rest of my life?
Me: Wow, Sarah! I think he would love that! I think that is exactly what he would want from you!
Sarah: Yep! That's what I'm getting him!
This conversation reminds me of part of a talk I read recently by Elder Russell M. Nelson. He said, "Considering all that the Savior has done--and still does--for you, what can you do for Him? The greatest gift that you could give the Lord at Christmas, or at any time, is to keep yourself unspotted from the world, worthy to attend His holy temple. And His gift to you will be the peace of knowing that you are prepared to meet Him, whenever that time shall come."
My kids constantly amaze me with how well they really do understand the pure and simple principles of the gospel. And I really don't say that to brag. In fact, I really don't attribute it to what we have done as parents, but more to the amazing "last days" spirits that are coming to the earth at this time. I am deeply grateful for the many gifts that my Savior has given me--especially the gift of these three precious children in my life. I pray that we may all choose to give the Savior "a sack full of good choices" for the rest of our lives, so that we may be prepared to meet Him, whenever that time shall come.
