a trip to Houston

We took a quick overnight trip to Houston this weekend. We spent the night with Joe and his family. It was fun hanging out with them again. They introduced us to Bahama's Bucks shaved ice, which was absolutely delicious! I'm not a snow cone fan, but these were amazing! Saturday morning we went to visit Mike and Tiffany for a while and met baby Noah. They watched the kids for us while Aaron and I went to the temple with some dear friends for their special day. It was a wonderful weekend. I'm so grateful for wonderful family, friends, and the blessings of the temple.

When Sarah got home from school today, I told her she needed to go read. Later I went to check on her and this is where I found her. Outside.



Reading to her turtles. She just got them a couple of days ago.



She's been missing not having a pet, so Aaron asked a friend to see if he could find some turtles for her.





She's so excited to have pets again.



And so is John David.



He's a little scared of them though, because he says they are "scratchy".



But Sarah loves having turtles again.



So.......meet the newest additions to the Young Family......Mike & Ike.

a pretty sweet deal

Ever since John David started getting his hair cut, he has pretty much hated it and cried the entire time. But now Maw Maw has started cutting his hair, and he's getting so much better about getting his hair cut. Why? Because if he doesn't cry, Maw Maw pays him "some dollars" and some lollipops! Pretty sweet deal, right?! Is he spoiled? Maybe just a little.

Modesty Fashion Show

Today we went to the Stake YW Modesty Fashion Show. Each girl was assigned a value according to the first letter of her name and was supposed to make a collage of clothes that were their value color. Then for the fashion show they were supposed to wear their value color. Katie and I decided to take it a step further and make something modest in her value color. She chose to make a maxi skirt. It was such a fun, and easy project.



It turned out so cute! And we had enough fabric left over to make an infinity scarf and a headband too!



Katie's friend, Kashell, also had knowledge and came over and made a skirt too. Here they are with their collages.

First Day of School

Today was the first day of school. This summer went by way too fast.



My sweet little Sarah looked so cute.



I love the shoes she picked out.





I can't believe this sweet, sassy girl is in fourth grade this year!



I did a waterfall braid for her this morning. (Learning to do a waterfall braid was #1 on my summer bucket list.)



And my big middle schooler was looking pretty cute too!





And I love that she picked out Keds for school. Yeah, they're back in. LOVE Keds!

Seventh grade....here she comes!



So....this is my last year with this handsome guy. Makes me tear up just thinking about it, so we are gonna have some fun and make some memories.

the last weekend of summer break

The weekend before school starts back we always like to do something fun with the kids. We decided to take a trip to Houston this weekend. We went to visit a dear friend at MD Anderson who had just had surgery. Then we went to our hotel, and found three monkeys jumping on the bed.








Oh...wait.....those are my monkeys.



That night the boys went and did boy stuff and me and the girls went to see "Wicked". I had seen it a few years ago, and had been wanting to take the girls ever since.



They were so excited!



And of course they LOVED it! It was a super fun night!



When we got back to our hotel, we went swimming.



The kids loved having Daddy swim with them, and they all wanted to jump off of his shoulders.









My how I love this bunch!



The next day we did some shopping and headed back home. Grateful to spend some down time with my favorite people in the universe!

summer bucklist

Well....summer is coming to an end, and we haven't accomplished very much on our bucket list. Oh well, there's always next summer, right? Right! So, here's some of the things we did do.

#8 on Sarah's list--make a blanket.























It turned out super cute....and she loves it!

#8 on my list--late night Sonic run. Yeah, everyone loved this one!







#4 on John's list--make a blanket fort and read books and watch movies inside.



It was a rainy day and there wasn't much else to do, so the kids made this huge blanket fort that used every blanket in the house and every square inch of the living room.



They played in it all day.



It was pretty cool, but Aaron and I had limited access.



After dinner, we all climbed in and watched a movie.



It was pretty awesome. Even the big kids liked it.



Looking forward to next summer to cross off some more things on our summer bucket list!
